Classic Gaming Quarterly
США
Добавлен 8 июл 2013
Classic Gaming Quarterly attempts to offer an alternative to the low-effort, cookie-cutter, "me too" content flooding the gaming genre on RUclips. I don't scream and curse while I play video games, try too hard to be funny, or make weird faces in the thumbnails of my videos. I attempt to make higher-effort, higher-quality, family-friendly content, and hopefully by watching my show you'll learn something new about your favorite video games. This is not my job, so uploads happen infrequently.

Episode 73 - In celebration of SepTandy 2022, here's basically everything you might want to know about the Tandy 1000 TL/2. This computer was another Craigslist find, back around Christmas of 2020. I honestly don't remember what I paid for it, but I'm sure it was around $200 or so. Even though I already had (and still have) a 1000SX, this newer style of T1000 is what I more closely associate wi...
EGM's 1992 Sega Genesis Buyers Guide | CGQ
Просмотров 72 тыс.Год назад
Episode 72 - On this episode of Let’s Read, we take a look at Electronic Gaming Monthly’s 1992 Sega Genesis Buyers Guide, sold under their “Mega Play” branding. Although they call it a guide for 1992, it’s really a synopsis of the games that came out for the system in 1990 and 1991. Having come out in the fall of 1991, this would have been great for someone trying to put together their Christma...

Electronic Gaming Monthly #4 - November 1989 | CGQ

Episode 70 - On this episode of Let's Read, it's just the fourth issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which was probably on newsstands sometime in late September or early October. This issue was interesting for me because it comes right after the launch of both the Sega Genesis and the TurboGrafx-16, and therefore has launch games featured in the reviews as well as in the "fact files". The fact ...

Episode 69 - Nice. On this episode of Let's Read, I'm joined by Coury from My Life in Gaming as we check out the first issue of Sega Visions, from June and July of 1990. Sega Visions was started by Sega of America as a competitor to Nintendo Power, and was an evolution of earlier SoA newsletters. This issue features a lot of awesome Master System and Genesis titles, including The Revenge of Shi...

Mega Action was a British Mega Drive-exclusive magazine published by Europress, who were the same folks that brought you Amiga Action, PC Action, Super Action, GB Action, ST Action, and more. Europress also published software, though primarily educational titles. This magazine was donated to the show by Darren in Ossett, England, who goes by ...

Episode 66 - The Everdrive N8 Pro for the NES. Everdrives are flash carts, allowing gamers to load ROMs onto actual hardware by essentially emulating a cartridge. Electronic Gaming Monthly Issue #1 - May 1989 | CGQ

Episode 65 - The very first (monthly) issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly! Technically, this is the second issue of EGM, because it was beaten to newsstands by their 1989 Buyers Guide, but this was the first regular issue, and is according to EGM, issue #1. The magazine is obviously very NES-heavy due to the time in which it was released. Show Notes: - “Where is episode 64?” It is a Patreon and ...

Episode 63 - The second-ever issue of Nintendo Power, from the fall of 1988! When I did the read-through of issue #1, someone suggested that I go through all of them chronologically. I don't know if I'll necessarily do that, but it might be fun to try. This cover story is of course Castlevania II - Simon's Quest, but I was really surprised by the number of what I refer to in the video as "heavy...

I was born in 91 loved playing Fighting Force I remember renting the Fighting Force 2 and hating it
He needs to grow that mustache back! A work of art 😂
Do you let up on the gas and/or break in the turns or neither? I slam into things on either side. Anyway - I love these videos!!!
If you thought experiencing these in sep 95 was cool, imagine experiencing them in Dec 94 during the Japanese launch like I did. I had 8 people in my bedroom Xmas 94 playing ridge racer and Parodious.
Daytona USA for the Saturn was great. I got mine at launch and never felt like I had made a mistake, choosing a console that only 7 other people owned in the world. It was a double edged sword…sometimes Saturn games would be much cheaper than PS1 but the availability went from 1:1 to 1:25 and beyond.
Grabbed one on my first pay day from electronics boutique. £110 the star wars racer pack.
Hey you do a great job with these videos. Just wanted to encourage you.
"Not a fan" of Strider on the Genesis? Hey. I guess everyone's entitled to be wrong.
Love this game, took some time to get the hang of it but it's earns a spot on the podium with the best sport games like Sensible Soccer and NBA Jam on the SEGA Mega Drive. Most sportgames don't age well so this a true timeless masterpiece. Every game is packed with action and you've literally have to work hard for the victory. I've enjoyed your video, keep up the good work.
I know I'm late to the party but thank you for this video. It was delightful to relive the Master System, and especially seeing the hardware and packaging again. The design is awesome and I'd buy a console looking like that today too. After burner was a disappointment but Phantasy Star and R-type I've actually replayed as an adult.
Love your videos. Thank you for the hard work it takes putting them together for us to watch
The picture on my retro cosoles look amazing on Rf the new oled samsung tv have a upscaler build in . Did pay over 3k £ for the tv
Cant believe I just watched this whole thing lol I was only a baby at the time and never played any of these WHY IS THIS SO INTERESTING
All versions of NHL 94 including SEGA GENESIS and CD are equally the best.
24:24 I don’t think that’s wandering my boy trynna get them 100 coins
All these people do is regurgitate rhetoric. They don't have an original thought.
The best controller ever and it’s not close. One of the best systems ever. Some of the best games ever. I feel lucky to have been there for it all.
"...for visual and audio performance rather than processing power" Some things never change, and I say that with love!
Over the past couple decades I grew a great appreciation for these classics. I was about 3 years old when the SNES came out, I got a Genesis for Christmas'95 and the only time I ever got to play the SNES was over at my friends house, it was his dad's system. I love both the Genesis and SNES, they both offer unique games but as I got older I ended up liking more RPGs so I like the SNES a little more than the Genesis for that reason. I got my Wii in '09 and that was how I got to play a lot of these classics such as Gradius III, Super Castlevania IV, and Final Fantasy II are my favorites from 1991. I finally got a SNES in 2012 and ever then since I prefer to play on original hardware over emulation.
I played Space Harrier when I unlocked it on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.
🔥THE REVENGE OF SHINOBI 🔥
The second one is more forgiving with crashes i like the first one more
Microsoft later played the early entry card with XB360 and it played out very similarly to Genesis. They were both worthy challengers who gave the champion all they could handle, but fell just short of victory in the end.
The Dreamcast was far and away the most beautiful gaming system. We didn't deserve it. Sega always made fun games.
I regret trying to grow up so fast but glad I enjoyed my youth! Unforgettable moments
10 year old video helped me troubleshoot an issue I was having. Thank you!
That’s awesome!
👍👍👍👍🕹🕹
honestly i don't see any different between SEGA Mark 3 & SEGA Master system ,, they are both having that 8-bit NES quality style , there's no need for SEGA to make both of them ,, SEGA Master was enough , Mark 3 was just wasting money
This just unlocked a long forgotten memory of really happy times. Thank you so much.
1989 sounded like an awesome year to be a gamer.
The best Castlevania ever???😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very happy to see Air Combat as the first game reviewed.
I got a PlayStation for Christmas in 1995. NFL Gameday was the big draw for me. Also, I was blown away by Wipeout on the demo disc. This was the first time I ever played a fully 3d game.
Do ps double ballin . If u can sir.
As long as we are talking about the year 1991, I would like to add a few things: Guns 'n' Roses released the double album "Use your Illusion 1 & 2" Metallica released their opus "Black album" Nirvana released "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam released "Ten" ushering in the rock landscape earthquake "Grunge" Arnold Swarzennegar starred in arguably his greatest role in "Terminator 2" 1991 may have been one of the coolest years on record
there was a EA Hockey released in 1992 that used countries instead of NHL teams. With a little detective work you can figure out what NHL team is used for each country (Canada = LA Kings). The game speed was much faster than the NHL 92 release
I just ordered everdrive X5 for Nintendo 64. Can't wait. I only have super everdrive for SNES. I bought it from retro towers website
“How much do you weigh?” Scene in Batman takes place in the alley.
I could watch your video game magazine videos all day - awesome channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard driving on lynx and genesis = 5 fps 😂 I rented the genesis version back in the old days and got a weekend's worth of fun out of it (surprisingly).
Why doesnt mega everdrive megaman wily wars load?
Ahh my dad had this one and gave me the CoCo2. I think I eventually ended up with the TL/2. I don't recall mine having a hard drive. I do remember booting the drive with one disk, then getting to a DOS prompt and swapping disks to whatever game I wanted. I had Test Drive I and eventually II (as seen here). I loved those late 80s Porsches and dreamed of owning one when I got older. Now I'm well of age to own one and the more affluent have priced them far out of range! Fun memories on the PC though and going to the local Radio Shack.
The PC only made it as a game platform when VGA graphics was introduced in the late 80s. Prior to that Commodore had the best computer gaming both the 64 and the Amiga.
It was a great system in retrospect but the NES had way more games. I got the Genesis which was a lot of fun.
Dear god, galaga is not pronounced that way. Neither is “Jaliko”. It’s “juh-lee-co”
Actually, it is. ギャラガ is gya-ra-gah.
@@CGQuarterly that pronunciation makes zero sense to me. You don’t say ga-lah-xy. You say gal-axy. Don’t get me wrong, I see your point and am not accusing you of lying or anything, but it will never make sense to me.
Ostensibly
This video is so rad ! Long live Genesis
I have a snes my self
I loved the Saturn and the DreamCast
This guy, skipping over the Clash at Demonhead ad. That game rules.
